HIGH CASCADE LAKES
EAST LAKE | HOSMER LAKE | DAVIS
LAKE The Deschutes National Forest contains
numerous alpine lakes beneath stunning Cascade mountain peaks. These one day trips include
nationally known lakes such as Paulina, Hosmer, Davis, Wickiup, LIttle Lava, and East
Lake. These lakes hold large populations of trophy fish including Rainbow, Brown, Brook
trout and Atlantic Salmon
EAST LAKE

Main Catch: Brown & Rainbow Trout, Kokanee, Atlantic SalmonSeason: general trout, 4th sat. in April to Oct. 31
Best time: early & late for trophy Browns; all season
for other species
East Lake is in the caldera of the Newberry National Monument, the
largest ice-age volcano in Oregon. East lake is 37 miles south of Bend, and is well known
for its large Brown trout, many exceeding 10 pounds. |
HOSMER LAKE
 Main Catch: Atlantic Salmon,
Brook and Rainbow trout
Season: year round
Fishing Method: Flyfishing only, no motors
Best time: good hatches generally all season
Hosmer Lake is well known for its Atlantic Salmon and trophy Brook
Trout as well as its beautiful surroundings. This is an idyllic setting with views of
Cascade peaks, heather-covered islands, and abundant wildlife. Hosmer Lake is restricted
to fly fishing only and catch-and-release on all salmon. |
DAVIS LAKE
| Main Catch: Klamath Rainbow; Large Mouth Bass Fishing Methods: FLY FISHING ONLY
Season: year round, depending on road access
Best time: Spring & Fall
Davis Lake is recognized as a trophy Rainbow fishery. It is a shallow
lake with prolific insect hatches. Two to five pound Rainbow are common. We encourage
catch and release, but the catch limit is 2 trout per day with an 8-inch minimum length,
and of these no more than one over 20 inches. There are no bag limits on warm water fish. |
